Rules! More Rules!

RULES FOR THE 3 DAY EXPERIMENT! READ THOROUGHLY!

Protein only (lean for best results)
Skip unnecessary fats like cheese and cream
Skip alcohol (yes, all forms!)
Skip junk protein like pepperoni and pork rinds
Drink diet beverages and plain coffee & tea as desired
Use artificial sweeteners as desired
No calorie counting
No cheating (it's 3 days!)
Eat a Centrum type vitamin each day
The absolute rule is carbs are sugar. Good carbs or bad, they are all sugar. Your body will use the following in this exact order:

* alcohol, then
* carbs, then
* protein, then
* dietary fat, then finally
* stored body fat

This is physiology and cannot be disputed. If you overeat alcohol, carbs, protein and dietary fat, then you won't lose body fat ... why would you?

If someone increases carbs and compensates by lowering calories (fat) it will "work" ... just as increasing calories (fat) and lowering carbs will "work".

It depends on what you want, where you're at psychologically and what you're willing to do to get it.
Can you commit?

Thoughts on the Nigella Article

I think he lost the weight in March 2008.

I read this as a reply on a blog commenting on the article below:

“Nigella Lawson’s first husband, journalist John Diamond died of cancer in 2001. Her new husband, (art collector) Charles Saatchi demands that she retains her curvaceous figure. In her first major interview since the couple married last month, Lawson, 43, told how food is one of the secrets of their happiness together. Nigella is the epitome of sexy and voluptuous and feminine. The always say you can't trust a skinny cook....”

But let's imagine you want to emulate Nigel and Charles. Let's say that you're tired of your seal-like sleekness. Lawson has actually written a book about how to do it. It's called the Nigel Lawson Diet Book (no sugar, no dairy, no alcohol, plus old-fashioned calorie-counting). His motto is, "If it isn't hurting, it isn't working", which is a subtle play on his motto as chancellor, which was, "It's hurting and it isn't working".

“No fruit or vegetables for nine months? That sounds awful. What about scurvy and vitamin deficiencies? Now he's gone vegetarian, but from the looks of the photo, he's still smoking. Nigella has also lost some weight, after she got a lot of grief about it from the press. They do look much better, but the egg-only diet sounds most unsafe.”

How Nigella's Hubby Lost Weight

(Reported on Tuesday March 11, 2008 in The Guardian)

Nigella Lawson’s husband Charles Saatchi has managed to lose an impressive four stone in nine months by spurning his wife’s culinary temptations...and eating nothing but eggs instead.

In an exclusive interview with The Mail on Sunday’s You Magazine today, 48-year-old Ms Lawson says her husband’s ‘completely mad eggs, eggs and more eggs diet’ now means that he is thinner than her.

Her husband preferred to opt out of thinking about food, sticking to plain boiled or scrambled eggs.

‘For nine months, he ate three eggs for breakfast, three eggs for lunch and three eggs for supper,’ she reveals. ‘The doctor said to me, “It’s neck-and-neck whether Charles keels over or loses the weight first.” But it was easier for him than engaging in the whole business of food.

'One of the advantages of being with someone who likes how you are is that you don’t have to look through your own hypercritical gaze. If I go to America and I haven’t got Charles to say “You look lovely” before I go out, I suddenly want to be a Size Two.’

Mr Saatchi has reportedly said of his diet: ‘The discomfort and humiliations of being obese finally won. I am still not much to look at, but I have become cringingly vain and hold the world record for the highest level of cholesterol ever seen in anyone still with a pulse.’

A study published last month in the International Journal of Obesity showed women eating two eggs at breakfast lost 65 per cent more weight than women who ate a similar breakfast without eggs.

Just BCuz

Starting a three day Egg-experiment. I have been reading it will break a stall. I just could notget under 190 pounds until today. I am pretty Eggcited. I discovered I hate poached eggs (too slimey textured) and that I can only eat scrambled eggs with a TBSP of slasa to make them palatable. I just choked on a tiny piece of boiled egg! It went down my windpipe! not good!

This Was Interesting!

An All-Egg Diet? What Would Happen?

March 25, 2010

There’s an audio-only video on YouTube where Jimmy Moore Talks With doctors Mike and Mary Dan Eades about an all-egg diet. They talk about an 88-year old man who ate nothing but 24 eggs a day. Almost 2,000 calories a day, just from eggs! He usually at them boiled, either soft or hard, and because of his unusual diet they did a case study on him. He had good blood work, good cholesterol levels and all-around general health with no problems. They talk pretty fast, so I’ve included a transcript of the article below. After listening to this, I had to go cook up a big batch of eggs!

Audio Transcript

Jimmy Moore: I’m thinking of doing an experiment. For one week, just eat ten dozen eggs that whole week. Just to see what would happen to my cholesterol levels, and have it run … just for fun and as an experiment (laughs).

Mike Eades: Well I could tell you what would probably happen. Your LDL might go up a little bit, but your HDL would probably go up a lot. Your triglycerides would go down and LDL particle size would go up. There was an interesting study that came out about, oh I dunno, fifteen, eh, eighteen years ago, well not that long, probably fifteen years ago I guess, published in Southern Medical Journal. A case report of this elderly guy, this 88-year old guy who was in a nursing home. He ate twenty-four eggs a day, and that was his diet!

Jimmy Moore: Two dozen a day … wow!

Mike Eades: And he had the eggs brought in to him, and I think he’d boil them or soft boil them and he ate these 24 eggs a day. They published it because, he was fine. He had no cholesterol problems, he had no problems whatsoever, and the tone of the article was that he ate these eggs, that was in addition to the regular nursing home fare, which is usually pretty high in carbs. That can’t be, an eighty-eight year old guy can’t eat all those eggs, plus regular nursing home fare. So I wrote the researcher, and I said, “Hey, did the guy, you know, eat regular nursing home fare? because that’s what is suggested in the article”, I said, “because I can’t imagine a guy eat twenty-four eggs plus that”. He wrote back and said, “No, actually we went and checked with the nursing home staff and you’re right, he didn’t eat anything but the eggs.” And so then it all made sense, because if you eat the egg, you got protein and you got fat, and that’s what we were designed to eat.

Jimmy Moore: That’s right.

Mike Eades: So if you want to find out what happened, you can go read that study, and find out what happens to somebody who did it for a long time.
Jimmy Moore: Wow, that’s amazing.

Mary Dan Eades: It’s a shame that eggs have gotten the rap that they’ve gotten, because they are such a perfect little protein source and good fat, and they’re inexpensive, when you get right down to it. If you ate those two dozen eggs a day, which I can’t imagine many people that could eat two dozen eggs a day. But if you did eat two dozen eggs a day, and what are you paying?

Jimmy Moore (doing math out loud): Two, three dollars, four dollars?

Mary Dan Eades: 6 bucks? It’s a very cheap source of good quality protein.

Jimmy Moore (laughing): Yup, I’m definitely going to do that experiment now then.

So the Jimmy Moore guy did try an eggs only diet and lost 49 pounds in one month! OMG! Can that be right? He blogged about it. He ate a ridiculous number of eggs per day and kept a journal.
